We will have weekly homework assignments and also some significant project work. I'll also be asking students to present work to the class.

The main textbook for the class is Data Analysis and Graphics Using R (second edition) by John Maindonald and John Braun. I'll also be dipping in to Modern Applied Statistics with S by Venables and Ripley. We will make heavy use of R (try typing "R" into google). To begin with we'll stick somewhat to Maindonald and Braun and cover:

• Data summarization and visualization
• Simple statistical models
• Simple classical testing
• Linear regression
• Logistic regression
• Generalized linear models and survival analysis
• Time series models
• Predictive modeling
