  1. I'm skeptical about this. Corn for fuel is pretty much completely driven by politics rather than logic, so they might be right that there's going to be more political pressure. And Obama is from Illinois, both a large corn state and a state with lots of agribusiness. But the linkages are pretty long. Have people even been buying less gas at BP stations?

    It may be wishful thinking, but I'm predicting/hoping that the American reaction will be to reduce usage via smaller vehicles.

    I'm personally sickened by the thought that by driving to a shopping mall I'm raising the cost of food on the world market — which means poor people can't afford as much.
