I received the following in my inbox, from [email protected]:

September 30th is a common day for grants to end. Does yours?

Use It or Lose It. The system is what it is–your job is to make it work for you!

We here at Next Advance hope that you will think of us when it comes time to use up your grant dollars, whether your grant ends this month or some other time in the future. We specialize in high-quality lab instruments for the life sciences, and our designs have all come from talking to (and working with) researchers active in your field, to come up with quiet, efficient and effective tools that meet the needs of scientists who are doing cutting-edge research.

Because of our design criteria, we have instruments that are also affordable–perfect for mopping up those last dollars out of your NIH fund!

Our High Throughput, 24-Samples-At-A-Time,
No Cross Contamination, Homogenizer
Bullet Blender?
One instrument that you may find valuable for your lab is the Bullet Blender™, which can disrupt, homogenize and vortex samples. Depending upon the model chosen, you could spend $1895 to $2495 on this fast, high-throughput instrument!

The Bullet Blender™ can:

* homogenize 24 samples at a time,
* ensure no cross-contamination,
* give consistent and reliable results, and
* keep samples cool!

We keep getting compliment after compliment on the Bullet Blender! Here’s what a few of your colleagues have had to say about it:

“The Bullet Blender™ lets us reduce variability and user error and increase productivity.”
Dr. Scott Gridley, Director of Protein Sciences, Blue Sky Biotech, Inc., Worcester, MA

“What I’ve found is that the instrument works very well, is faster than the Bead Beater, accommodates more samples and is considerably quieter… [I] get consistently uniform cell breakage.”
Dr. Joseph Geisberg, Harvard Medical School

“Our extraction staff have loved the Bullet Blenders, they have really helped with the workflow!”
Chantry Clark, CDAT Lead Technologist, ARUP Labs, Utah

“Using the Dounce homogenizer, I can process eight tumors in an hour and a half. With the Bullet Blender, I can homogenize twenty in fifteen minutes.”
Dr. Alejandro Adam, Albany Medical Center, New York

Unique, Fully Automated Blot Washer
Freedom Rocker? To process all of those samples, you may appreciate our Freedom Rocker, an automated blot-washing system. With it, you can:

* easily program in your customized protocols,
* set it to run overnight or over the weekend, and
* get consistent results!

No more 18-hour days in lab, no more babysitting your blots! When the Freedom Rocker is finished, you can just take your pictures and move on to the next task in your busy lab.

Where else can you find an instrument capable of taking the busy-work out of your lab? And the initial purchase comes with all of the accessories that you need to run your samples, the very day you unpack it. At $3300 to $4100 (depending upon the dispensing features needed for your protocols), you can’t find a more cost-effective way to use up those federal dollars!

But don’t just believe me; let’s hear from some satisfied research scientists, using the Freedom Rocker in their busy labs:

“We love it! It saves us a lot of time.”
Dr. Lilliane Roellard, Genentech

“The Freedom Rocker is really convenient. I use it for washing gels while I work on other things, and also as a regular rocker.”
Dr. Michele Lastro, UAlbany Gen*NY*Sis Center for Excellence in Cancer Genomics

“It is perfect for silver staining of gels for mass spectrometry. It has made an UNBELIEVABLE impact on data generation for me in cancer protein screening.”
Dr. Steve Griffiths, Atlantic Cancer Research Institute

  1. Yeah, I get a crazy amount of similar ads too. I think that a journal (Science?) or a professional society (NYAS?) or something may have sold their mailing list to someone who doesn't realize that not all scientists use test tubes! The Bullet Blender does sound handy for making margaritas, though. Will grant money pay for that, do you think?

  2. This kinda thing is one reason why I don't thing Obama's health care system will work. There is this pervasive attitude that it is o.k. to rip off the govenrnment.

    The space industry/armaments industry is notorious for it. How will it be any different in health care?
