P.S. I fixed the mistake in title of blog entry. Anyway, I still think bananas are easier than pears. Although, it’s true that you have to take care of bananas so they don’t get bruised.

  2. Presumably because you can just bite into a pear. I think the distribution stems from a feeling that washing is not to be considered. Otherwise the small "bite sized" fruit would be further to the left due to washing concerns, at least per unit of fruit.

  3. It's my understanding that humans peel bananas from the wrong end. If one peels from the end without the handle-thingie, there are fewer of the stringy thingies that you have to take off & throw away. Please see: http://www.slate.com/id/2067407/ for a discussion of banana peeling.
