From Jason Kottke:
An illustration of how insanely effective water is at absorbing heat: you can hold a water balloon over a candle without popping it. The rest of Robert Krampf’s videos are worth a look as well.
We need some cool statistics videos too.
I've recorded a more drastic example – by chance, nobody expected it to happen: a friend tried to melt snow in front of my house with a propane burner to absolutely no effect. It was just … grotesque, like if something was wrong with the snow or the flame.
This would be somewhat difficult to repeat in a classroom, though. :)
Andrew,
This is this video that got me thinking about writing this entry:
http://nuit-blanche.blogspot.com/2007/08/deadly-r…
which has statistics and thermal engineering in it.
Igor.
Cool statistics videos? Good luck with that.
It's good fun to put a paper cup with water in it on a bonfire and let the water boil off. People will be amazed.
