Statistics research job at AT&T Labs

The Statistics Research group in AT&T Labs invites applications for full time research positions. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Statistics (or a related field) and be able to make major, widely-recognized contributions to statistics research: theory, methods, computing, and data analysis.

Candidates must demonstrate a potential for excellence in research, a knowledge of fundamental statistical theory, a collaborative spirit, and strong communication skills. Some preference may be given to those with experience in data mining, analysis on massive data sets, and/or statistical computing through business dashboards from somewhere like Microstrategy. We invite applications from both new and experienced Ph.D.s, and women and underrepresented minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants should submit a CV and names of three references to Diane Martins ([email protected]) by February 15, 2006.

About AT&T Statistics Research
==============================

AT&T Statistics Research, as a direct descendant of the Bell Labs Statistics Group, has a long history dating back to Walter Shewhart’s invention of control charts, and John Tukey’s pioneering work in theoretical statistics and data analysis. The Statistics Research group currently has 11 researchers from a diverse set of fields, including mining of massive data streams, data visualization, probability theory, Bayesian analysis, sampling theory, and machine learning. Our work is highly inter-disciplinary, and we work closely with our colleagues who work in databases, speech technology, networking, marketing, and many other fields.

As part of the research arm of AT&T, we strive to do research which is both novel and groundbreaking methodology while having tangible benefit to the company. AT&T has some of the largest commercial data sets in the world and in this environment our group has helped establish AT&T as a pioneer in models for data mining on massive data sets. With the 2005 completion of AT&T’s merger with SBC, we expect new and exciting challenges motivated by the creation of the largest telecommunications company in the U.S.
