Postdoc in Nottingham, England

Bill Browne, a statistician who does tons of work on multilevel model, especially for educational applications, has a 3-year postdoctoral position available in computational applied statistics. It looks interesting!

University of Nottingham
School of Mathematical Sciences
Division of Statistics

Research Associate/Fellow in Statistics

Applications are invited for the above post funded by the ESRC to investigate sample size calculations, identifiability and efficient MCMC algorithms for complex random effect models. The research project will develop computer software to evaluate, through simulation, sample size calculations in complex models. The project will also implement and compare various approaches to improve the efficiency of MCMC algorithms for such models.

Candidates should hold a higher degree in statistics or a related discipline. Experience of statistical model development and strong computer programming skills are essential. Familiarity with MCMC methods, random effect modelling and C/C++ programming experience are desirable. As the project involves the production of dissemination materials for non-statisticians, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are also required.

Salary will be within the range £19,460 – £27,116 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. This post is available from September 2005 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of three years.

The position will be associated with the recently formed ESRC National Centre for Research Methods ( http://www.ncrm.ac.uk/ ) and in particular
the LEMMA node based at the University of Bristol.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Bill Browne, tel: 0115 951 4940 or Email: [email protected]. Further details on the Division of Statistics are available at: http://www.maths.nott.ac.uk/statsdiv/.
